2. Classic route: Yukarı Kavrun → summit

3-day / 2-night programme

Day 1: Yukarı Kavrun (2,100 m) → Dilberdüzü camp (2,700 m)

  • Distance: ~6 km, 4-5 hours; moderate.
  • Water on the way, spring at Dilberdüzü. Camp at Dilberdüzü.

Day 2: Dilberdüzü → Deniz Gölü (3,100 m) → Summit (3,937 m) → back to Dilberdüzü

  • ~10 km total, 10-12 hours; hard.

  • Start summit push 04:00-05:00; aim to be back by 11:00.

Day 3: Dilberdüzü → Yukarı Kavrun

  • Descent day.

3. Alternative: Barhal (Artvin) approach

  • Barhal → Yaylalar (Hevek) village → Dilberdüzü → summit.
  • Less traffic than the Rize side. Bonus: stone church in Yaylalar.
  • 4-5 days total via Artvin.

4. Guides: mandatory?

Yes, especially for summit pushes:

  • Weather flips fast — fog, rain, even August snow.
  • Waymarking is thin.
  • Avalanche risk in some valleys even in summer.
  • Unguided groups get questioned during rescue operations.

Rates (2025-2026): certified local mountain guide ₺1,500-3,500/day. Group discount for 4+.

9. FAQ

Can an inexperienced hiker summit? Physically demanding, not technical. 2-3 months cardio + practice hikes + professional guide = yes.

Solo? Strongly discouraged. Getting lost, mild injury or weather flip makes rescue hard.

Family with kids? Summit no. But Ayder → Huser → Avusor (1,800-2,000 m, light walk) is fine for ages 8+.

Closest airport? Rize-Artvin (RZV) — ~100 km to Çamlıhemşin. Trabzon (TZX) as alternative.

10. After Kaçkar

After the summit, a jacuzzi bungalow in Ayder is the classic recovery — Ayder hot springs are ideal for muscle recovery.
